Race & Birth: A Dialogue

When: Saturday July 20th, 2019 1-3pm

Where: Breathing Room 864 Broadway, South Portland, ME

Cost: $25/person. Tickets can be purchased here.

Details: This interactive session is designed to look critically at how racism and white supremacy lead to disparate outcomes for prenatal and postnatal parents of color.

A key goal will be teaching, sharing, and learning practical tools for examining how whiteness within our own communities can be a barrier to equitable health outcomes. The session will be a mixture of lecture and group work as we unpack our own biases and create an action plan for creating an inclusive birthing community.

This workshop is open to anyone & everyone! We would love to have local birth workers, L&D nurses, doctors, body workers, and parents to create space for enriching dialogues and address racism in our local communities.

There may be strong opinions shared and high emotions during a portion of the day’s events, and we hope to learn from one another. We ask that you be respectful of others, their differences, and their views. We want this to be a safe space for all.

CDBP is also dedicated to growing the doula community by providing new doulas with connections to expectant families, workshops, and doula mentorship.

We run on a sliding scale, but no one is turned away regardless of their ability to pay.

There will be oysters, donuts, bagels, juice & coffee provided by local restaurants. Keep checking back as we update this with food suppliers and raffle items!
