Can I Afford a Doula?
The average cost of a birth doula in Maine is over $1600.
Community Doulas offers a more affordable option.
We do this in two ways.
Community Doulas supports all birthing persons regardless of their ability to pay because we believe everyone deserves a doula. We are able to provide free and reduced cost doula services to low-income pregnant people in Maine by connecting doulas-in-training with families in need.
Community Doulas operates on a sliding scale that considers not only your income but your financial stability. Your payment helps to provide doulas for those could not otherwise afford them. So not only do you get the support you need, you also help to support another pregnant person through their journey.

What is the Green Bottle Sliding Scale?
When you pay first tier (Full Bottle) ... know that your payment is matching the value of the services you’re receiving and you’re helping others access the same services who may not be able to otherwise.
When you pay second tier (Half Bottle) ... know that your payment is helping Community Doulas cover costs associated with providing care for you and your family.
When you pay third tier (Low Bottle) ... know that our agreement, no matter what amount you pay, is a way that our community supports each other and shares our gifts, passions, and missions!
Each of the above are wonderful and acceptable displays of community in business!
We’ve personally experienced the varying fullness of our “bottles” at different points in life and we want you to feel totally comfortable choosing what is right for you. Our financial policies are about trust, economic justice, and acknowledging that people are more than their financial reality and that we don’t need to be ashamed to talk about money.
Community Doulas will work with all clients to ensure that finances are not an obstacle to receiving the support you need for your pregnancy and birth.
