Birth Doula Support Services
What is a Birth Doula? A doula provides physical, emotional, and educational support to a pregnant person and their partner throughout the birth journey. They work with families during pregnancy to prepare for birth, remain present throughout labor—whether at home, in a birth center, or at a hospital—and support the family through the postpartum transition. Doulas encourage, normalize, and guide. They offer comfort measures, coach through contractions, and serve as a steady, knowledgeable presence. Above all, they bear witness to one of life's most profound transformations.
Birth Doulas offer support & guidance with:
Preparing for childbirth
Writing a birth plan
Emotional support
Continuous labor support
Connections to local resources
Education
Assisting with provider communication
Partner involvement
On-call 24/7 leading up to birth
Postpartum Doula Support Services
What is a Postpartum Doula? A postpartum doula is a trained support person who provides non-judgmental, evidence-based care to new parents during the postpartum period—often called the "fourth trimester"—which encompasses the first six weeks after birth. Unlike a birth doula, who supports families through labor and delivery, a postpartum doula steps in once the baby is home, offering guidance, practical help, and emotional support as families navigate the transition to parenthood. This might include help with newborn care, infant feeding support, light household tasks, sibling adjustment, and simply making sure parents have someone in their corner while they recover and adjust.
Postpartum Doulas offer support & guidance with:
Basic newborn care
Baby wearing
Basic household chores
Meal preparation
Connections to local resources
Newborn & infant feeding
Emotional & physical recovery from labor and birth
Parent-baby bonding
Infant soothing
“Laurie was amazing! When I found out my first pregnancy was high risk, I knew I wanted to explore the option of a doula. Having a knowledgeable advocate in the room with us was very important to me, and having somebody who could support me and my husband throughout the birth as well. Laurie’s initial visits gave us some great tools to start preparing for the birth, and then when it was time to go to the hospital, her motivation and positioning helped labor move along. She was a strong and comforting presence throughout the birth, and I am so thankful that she was a part of it! I cannot recommend her enough.”
